SARBINOWO

(former: Zorndorf)

Location

Sarbinowo (Zorndorf) is a small village between Dębno (Neudamm/Nm.) and Kostrzyn (Küstrin) not far away from the polish-german border with near 520 inhabitants. The village is idyllically situated on flat land, in the south and west it is bordered by woods.

History

For the first time in 1262 the village was mentioned as Zorbamstorp (the name suggest a possible village of the Sorbs). The village become known in whole Europe in 1758 when a battle of the so-called Seven Years' War took place near the village between the Prussian and Russian armies, noted as the "Battle of Zorndorf" in the history books and the War history. This village itself was severely affected in the battle. Located near the village is on the so-called "Friedrichs-Hügel" ("Friedrichs Hill," the place where the prussian king Friedrich II. was standind during the battle) a monument to the battle. Near the village is the Fort Zorndorf, formerly one of the four outer forts of the fortress Küstrin. It was built in 1883-87, but was already outdated by the military technical progress, when it was completed. Today the fort is in ruin.

Monument of the 1758 Zorndorf battle in Sarbinowo near Kostrzyn (Küstrin)

Reneved monument raised in 2010 on a place of the Zorndorf battle between prussian and russian forces in 1758. The monument was raised in a place of famous and destroyed old monument that was mentioned in the book 'Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg' by the famous german author Theodor Fontane. Many years old monument was only a pile of stones, where in 1758 the general hill of the prussian king Friedrich II was.
how to find → Leave Kostrzyn (Küstrin) in direction Dębno (Neudamm/Nm.), in the village Sarbinowo drive to the left. About a kilometer after the village look on the right side of the street for a mark, which shows an prussian soldier. The monument is on the right side about 100 meters from the street.

Fort Sarbinowski in Kostrzyn (Küstrin)

It is a system of bunkers built in 1883-1887 as a part of Kostrzyn Fortress. Now only ruins remains.
how to find → When you drive from Dębno (Neudamm/Nm.) to Kostrzyn (Küstrin) it is located about 3 kilometers before Kostrzyn. It is in the woods on the left side of the road, about 300 meters from road.
