SŁOŃSK (former: Sonnenburg)
Interesting places:
Ruin of a palace built in 1429 and rebuilt in 1668 after fire. After World War II changed into grain storage. Destroyed by the fire again in 1975. Stays in ruin.

From Kostrzyn (Küstrin) use the Street No. 22 in south-eastern direction, after 15 kilometers you will reach Słońsk (Sonnenburg). The ruin of the palace is in the center of the town in opposite of the church. |

Church from 18th century, made by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Since the 13th century is a church here, since 1550 there is taking place the knightly accolade ot the Knights of St. John. Have a look to the wonderful windows, which shows the crests of 92 knights, which died in the 1th World War, and the worthy to see altar.

On the area of the former german cemetery in Słońsk (Sonnenburg) was installed a lapidarium with gravestones of
importand and not so important peoples of the town.

of the city. After some hundred meters the cemetery is on your left. |

Cemetery for the victims of the national-socialist concentration camp in Słońsk (Sonnenburg)
Memorials and graves for the victims of the concentration camp. Between 1933 and 1945 there was
imprisoned in the prison some german and foreign opponents of the nazi regime in the so called "Torture hell Sonnenburg".
Shortly before the end of the war the SS killed more than 800 of them.

The Maurice stone near Lemierzyce (Alt Limmritz)
The so-called Maurice stone, a block of granite lying here since the Ice Age is a natural monument. He, however, has also traces of a remodeling aimed at
former importance as a ritual sacrifice stone. Close to a hunting lodge once have been. The stone was named after John Maurice of Nassau, the
Master of the Order of St. John from the neighboring town Słońsk (Sonnenburg). After the 2nd World War II an inscription in memory of the first polish population in Lemierzyce 1945
was attached, indicating that in earlier times the region was once slavic settlements.

If you came from Słońsk (Sonnenburg) towards Lemierzyce, stop a few hundred meters before reaching the village. The stone is located in the woods on the left side of the road near a hill. |
